my opinion

I think that the play ghost was a good play I like how the video clip in class had a different perspective then how ghost was in act III. The book kept me wanting to know more about the characters in the play each person in the play had there own dark secret and I think that is what I liked the most about the play.

Ghost Act 3

wow, who would ever thought that Regine was Mr. Alving's daughter. Also, Oswald was shocked when he found out that they are related, because he wanted to marry regine. When Regine found out the truth she was mad, because she always thought that Mrs. Alving hired her as a maid but the truth is, she's part of the family. This scene stood out the most to me. Overall, this book is good, and it always take my by suprise. Now I'm looking forward to read "Doll's House".

My Opinion

Overall, I thought this was a really good play. I had never in my life read a play but I have to say that it was pretty astonishing. It kept me eager to learn more, and what made it better it's that it left me wondering, (even though I still want to know what happened). I could say it was like reading a soap opera or something, but I thought it was great to read.

Act 3

In the last act of Ghosts everything is put on the table. The truth about Oswald and Regine being half brother and sister is out. Regine gets mad when she finds out about this because she grew up thinking she was just a maid when in fact she would've had as many much rights as anybody in the house because she too was Captain Alving's blood. After Regine leaves, Oswald starts blaming Mrs. Alving because he had in mind to marry Regine in return of her killing him. The reason for that is because Oswald is suffering from the disease of Syphilis, and is taking morphine. Mrs. Alving is basically in denial at first, she doesn't accept the fact that her son is really ill, and tells him that morphine is not the way to go, that she will always be there to care for him. Towards the end of the play Oswald keeps saying, "the sun...the sun", this can be that finally the light is out, the truths are no longer secrets. And me as a reader, I want to know what did Mrs. Alving end up doing? She took the morphine but what did she do with it??.......

ACT 3

In act 3 Mrs. Alving tells Oswald and Regine that they are brother and sister at first they didn’t believe it but then they tell Regine that she has a place to stay and Regine says no that she is going to stay with Pastor Mandors because pastor Mandors is going to take care of her and Engstrand is going to offer Regine a job with him. And towards the end of the play Oswald gets even sicker and tells his mom what’s really wrong with him and Mrs. Alving starts to panic then Oswald lays on the chair motionless and keeps saying the sun….the sun and that is how the play ends.

Ghost Act 2

In act 2, Oswald confessed to Mrs. Alving that he has feelings for Regine, and also they found out that Engstrand is not Regine's father, instead Mr. Alving is. I was suprised when i found out these information after reading Act 2, and now im more interested in this play. I'm looking forward to find out more during the reading of Act 3. I love it so far.

Social Significance of the Modern Drama

In The Social Significance of the Modern Drama by Emma Goldman tells the story of Ghost in a different way then Henrik Ibsen does. I think this was wasn’t as good as how Ibsen does his plays even though Goldman did make it a little bit easier to understand the character Ibsen was more dramatic with his character and that is what I like about Ibsen play so far because it makes me feel how his characters feel and how they see things.

Act 2 Ghosts

In act 2 of ghost Mrs. Alving and pastor Manders talk a little bit more about Mr. Alving while they were talking about Mrs. Alving’s husband they talk about his past and how Regina was actually Mr. Alving daughter in stead of Engstrand. But later on during act one Oswald Mrs. Alving son tells her that he is ill and tells her that he is falling for Regina. When Mrs. Alving hears this she becomes upset because she feels that Oswald is turning in to his father because the same thing happened when Mr. Alving was still alive. Oswald also tells his mother who is Mrs. Alving that he wants to marry Regina. And towards the end of act 2 they also find out that the orphanage is on fire.

The Social Significance of the Modern Drama

This is a Scandinavian Drama of Henrik Ibsen, Emma "interpreted" Ghosts all over again. I would have to say that it's good but I think Ibsen's original play was far better than this. In The Social Significance of the Modern Drama, I like the fact that she introduces the characters for the audience and explains what's going on a little bit better though.

Ghosts Act 2

In act 2 Mrs. Alving has her suspicions that her son Oswald and Regine are flirting. Pastor Manders keeps telling Mrs. Alving that Regine needs to go with her father Engstrand but he finds out that Engstrand isn't Regine's father, Mr. Alving is her father. Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders talk about their past, and he explains how he had to battle with himself , "It was my life's greatest victory, Helene; victory over myself " (127), because he too had feelings for her but instead he sent her back to her husband.
Mrs. Alving talks about how she feels there are ghosts haunting her. First her husband and Johanna, Regine's mother, and even though she sent her son away so he wouldn't witness his father's actions, now he is just like him.
Then Oswald talks to his mother and makes a confession that he is sick, meanwhile also letting her know what he really thinks about Regine. They all sit and talk and Oswald says how they want to marry. Mrs. Alving then feels that she should let them know the truth but a fire interrupts.

realism and romanticism

Realism and romanticism is very interesting because realism deals with things more real in life how on the other had romanticism deals with romance and other different types of emotions. But realism was a way for people of middle-class to relate to something it was something that made them happy because know one wants to read about rich people all day long they want to read about people who deal with the same situations as they do. To me I like both I find realism and romanticism interesting because you get a little bit of everything on both sides.

Ghost Act 1

To me I really don’t like to read plays they always get me confused about who is talking in the play, but when I read ghost it kept me wanting to know more Henrik Ibsen gives a detail description about each person in the play and I think that’s what made me more interested about it and it also kept me wanting to know more about the characters. My favorite character was Mrs. Alving who is the mother of Oswald she has a very interesting story about her everything that she had to go threw when her husband was alive no wife should have to go threw that even though she left her son she did come back. I think that if a lot of women was put in the same situation they would most likely do the same or something a little bit different.

Realism VS. Romanticism

People have different opinion on realism and romanticism. Some people like realism because they felt like they can be related to the situations, and more ordinary, but people who like romanticism because it's over dramatic, and more exciting. Personally, i like reading romanticism novels. To me, romanticism related novels are more interesting to read, because you never know what's going to happen. It also catches your attention more.

GHOST ACT 1

I had never read a play before, and yet only seen one broadway show which i thought was amazing. But from the reading of Ghost act 1, it really change my view on reading plays. I thought it would be boring, but after reading this, it really suprised me on how they wrote this play, and actually took you to the zone where you can have the actual pictures in your head of what's happening while reading. I can clearly imagine how each character's physical and emotion movement.
After reading act 1, i sort of pity Jacob Engstrand. Even though he's an alcoholic, and havn't accomplish much, but he still cares for his daughter Regine, and it seem like she doesn't care for him as much. Also, Mrs. Alving misjudges Engstrand based on what he did, and prevent Regine from going home with Engstrand. well, i guess she doesn't want Regine to be in the same situation where she was when her husband treated her bad. And Pastor Manders is just in everyone's business.
Overall, so far so good!

Ghosts Act I

Personally I don't like to read; but I gave this a chance and I actually really like it a lot. I read act 1 in about an hour and wanted to keep going. The story is just so interesting. In the whole play there is only a total of five characters, and almost from the beginning we know them all: Mrs. Alving, Oswald her son, Pastor Manders who is aslo a close family friend to the Alving's, Jocob Engstrand and his daughter Regine who is Mrs. Alvings servant. Every single one of these characters has their own story, but my favorite would be that of Oswald even though we may not know a lot about him yet. He got sent away from home because his mother did not want him to see how terrible his father was. Now that he is back he has such beliefs that one would not accept as normal in those days. One thing that Jacob says in the beginning of the act is that "we are frail creatures". That is so true the slightest problem could turn into something huge and hurt one worst than expected. The writing that is used by the author is that of realism and just by that quote one can see just how realistic Ibsens' writing is. I can not wait to read on I actually already started and I hope that in the end Regine leaves to go be with her father because that seems like the right thing to do despite their past relationship. They as father and daughter can create or add on to their relationship to make it great.

Ghosts Act 1

In act 1 there are a couple of characters, but the character that caught most of my attention is Mrs. Alving. I feel kind of bad for her because it seems as if she had a really bad marriage and had to learn to deal with it. If it was me I don't think I would be able to deal with half of the things she said her husband put her through.

Realism

I think realism was a good way for ordinary people to relate to it. It showed that romanticism wasn't actual, that it was more artistic and imaginative. Take drawings for example, you can tell the difference between a realism drawing and a romanticism drawing. The realism drawing can be something so ordinary like two women ironing. The romanticism drawing on the other hand, would be more artistic, a drawing of a nude woman for example.

I think realisim was a different point of view for people at that time. The only thing that I don't agree with too much is the fact that people such as Charles Darwin started thinking that there was no God and that man was the most powerful creature there was.
